Diagnostic Breast Surgery
Excision of Palpable Lesions
Many benign or indeterminate breast lumps undergo surgical excision to establish a definitive diagnosis. Some ladies with biopsy confirmed benign lumps still prefer to have them removed.
Localised Excision of Non-Palpable Lesions
Incidental or screen detected lesions which are not palpable will often require surgical excision following pre-operative localisation. Localisation can be with a carbon tract, hook needle or magnetic seed depending on the position of the lesion in the breast.
Nipple Discharge - Microdochectomy and/or Central Duct Excision
Removal of a single duct or the central ductal tissue deep to the nipple is occasionally required to establish the diagnosis when ladies have bloody or watery nipple discharge.
